The Best Advice You Can Get On What To Do When Your Car Breaks Down

Friday, June 17th, 2011

It is never a good experience to be involved in a crash. Calmness and prior knowledge of what to do is an advantage when faced with what to do when your car breaks down. If you know these steps you can save yourself a lot of harm. They may save your life. These tips will show the best way to deal with the situation.

Assess the situation. Look around and see where the vehicle is situated. Take note of whether the area is crowded or quiet. Ask yourself whether there is immediate danger to the vehicle such as a busy highway or whether the car is perched on a precipice and may fall off at any time. Do not attempt to exit the vehicle if this is the case.

If there is immediate danger to the vehicle, try to remain calm and positive. You will not remain focused if you lose your head. If the vehicle is facing oncoming traffic, turn the hazard lights on. This warns people that you are in distress. There is less chance of a collision if people can see this. If people notice you are in trouble they may come to to the car to assist you.

The vehicle may have come to rest in a safe spot. You can relax a bit and breathe deeply. Switch on the hazard lights. If the vehicle is crushed or the crash is serious do not attempt to get out of the vehicle. You may have internal injuries or broken bones from the crash. Trying to move will make the injuries worse.

The first reaction to the crash may be one of shock. Check your body for external wounds. This may be evidenced by blood on clothing or in the vehicle. Other types of injuries such as internal injuries or broken bones may be unidentified as yet. You may further aggravate the injury by attempting to move too soon.

If you are unhurt and able to exit the vehicle, do so with caution. Sit down where you can. If you have a cell phone, phoning the insurance company could be a good idea. First however, you must make a careful note of the damage and whether or not there was a third party involved. The insurance company will handle all of the financial needs during this difficult time.

If you follow these tips the experience should be made easier. Remain cool and you will be able to think clearly. Take stock of the situation. Now you know what to do in a car accident. This information could save your life.

Travelling By Train

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Over the last ten years there has been a return to train travel, particularly in the United States. This might have something to do with nostalgia and romance, but most analysts put it down to a result of the in-flight bombing of Twin Towers on 9/11/2001.

The government’s and the airlines’ reaction to those acts of terrorism have resulted in massive hikes in the degree of security at airports and rightly so, but travellers are also put off by the long queues and intrusive searches at airports. This problem is even worse at busy airports and during vacation periods such as when schools are closed.

Car travel is also an alternative, but then you have to do your own driving and that brings its own issues, especially if you are with children and especially if you are a single parent. Apart from that, travelling by train is a holiday in its own right. Your holiday starts the minute you put your bags in the rack and find your seat.

Once you have sat down, given the kids a colouring book and a can of soda, you can sit back, relax and just snooze or look out of the window at the scenery whizzing past. Most of your worries are over until you arrive at where you are going. Your kids cannot become lost or wander off and they are very safe from predators.

Moreover, trains seats are normally much more spacious than comparable airline seats. Economy seats in a train are much more comfortable than economy seats in an airplane. You can also get up and walk about which makes long journeys much more comfortable.

The vista is also better from a train than a plane. After all, clouds are clouds are clouds, but you can see all sorts of things out of the window of a train. There are also sleeping and dining carriages to break up the trip, but there is usually also attendant service in your seat, if that is what you want. Simply push the button and someone will come to take your order.

Have you heard of the Orient Express, the Flying Scotsman or the Trans-Siberian Express? What romantic visions they summon up. Modern trains may not have the nostalgia or the steam trains of the Thirties, but they are still fantastic to travel on.

You can book your seats on a train journey much the same as you would on a plane, which means that if you stand up to go to the bathroom or dining carriage, your seat will still be unoccupied when you get back. This is a huge plus point, because it is annoying when someone takes your seat.

The next time that you make a decision to go away, reconsider travelling by train. You can leave your car at the station or you can even take it with you on the train, if you prefer. You will not regret having given the rail network a opportunity, because the chances are that you have forgotten how handy and cheap they are.

Different Options To Decide For Your Family Vacation

Friday, June 10th, 2011

Most families are busy in the majority of the year with work and school. Maximize the time when the season of vacations are finally here by going vacation resorts for the whole family and avoid having to do any house work at all.

Even on tight budgets, there are many vacation packages that will cover the whole family. These will vary and those who are looking for their ideal trip will surely find it.

1.) Going on a cruise. A classic way to spend the holidays or vacations, no one can go wrong with choosing a cruise. All of the luxury in life may be offered and you may dine with the finest cuisine on deck. Show your other relatives how much great time you had by sending back the postcards on shops.

2.) Having fun on the beach. Most people love this as they soak all day under the sun and feel the cool breeze of the ocean. While the adults get their tan on or relax lying on the beach, the kids can surely find something to do-swim, ski, dive or even ride a sailboat.

When it is time to retire, enjoy the delicious meals and the scenic view of the beach and ocean. After everyone is done eating, there is nothing else to worry about.

3.) Ski away on family ski vacation spots. It might not be as common as the previous two options but mom, dad and kids may also enjoy offers for family all inclusive ski trips which may already save them on expenses for transportation, food, ski guide, lift, equipment and other bonuses for this favorite snow sport.

In addition to that, a ski vacation is a good way to help the kids learn a new sport. Their safety will be a main concern for those who will instruct them the beginner’s lessons in skiing.

4) Enjoying an educational tour. Have your own outdoor adventure while you teach your kids new things. Go to a foreign land and have a tour included in your all inclusive vacation.

Walt Disney’s Word of Wisdom

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

Right through history there have been some great people whose words remain as memorable today, as they were long ago; interestingly a number of Disney quotes sre known to be amongst all of the wisdom.

You can probably remember many of the Disney movies, and, you may even be able to quote lines from them off of the top of your head, but would it come as much of a shock to you to find that a lot of the Disney quotes are as applicable to modern day situations, as they were to the predicament that the characters in the movies found themselves in?

Of course there is the Disney quotes like; “How could I have been so stupid?” This could easily ruin the business!” from the movie Monsters Inc. this is not a good example of Disney quotes that is appropriate give the condition of the economy in the late 2000’s. Whereas from Finding Nemo, “Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming; are you my conscience?” seems extremely appropriate today, because, what do we do? We swim, swim, and we swim.

Walt Disney was a man way ahead of most contemporaries, with his futuristic concepts, and his clear understanding of people, evident in the theme parks he created. A great many Walt Disney quotes highlight the insight of the man.

While he didn’t actually write the movie classics coming out of the Disney studios, anyone who has read the original versions of the stories will know that they have been substantially altered; many of the classic movie lines being absent from the original short stories, and it’s clear that many of these great Disney quotes wouldn’t have been in there if he hadn’t approved of them, and what they stood for.

If you are lucky enough to be old enough to remember when Walt Disney would introduce the stories of his weekly shows, and then talk at the end of the show as well, you will also know that there have been many Disney quotes which are less known, and seem to have been buried in time. Just because these less memorable Disney quotes are not in the movies, they have just as much importance.

So when you are watching Donal Duck’s latest antics, or listening to Merlin speak in that famous movie “The Sword & The Stone”, or maybe when you are trying to work out if Goofy is right or not, listen a little more closely to the Disney quotes in the movie, and see how they relate to your own life.

So, to quote a wise old bear ‘When you go after honey with a balloon, the great thing is not to let the bees know you’re coming.’ I know, I’m not too sure how that applies to this article, at the moment, but it’ll come.

Walt Disney quotes, words of Winnie The Pooh, Cinderella, Lion King and many others famous Disney quotes you can find on my site disneyquotes.org.

Summer Camp- Give Your Child Your Time

Friday, May 27th, 2011

Schools Out! Your children have just spent the last 9 moths programed with a purpose. Now the game has changed and now time is every where.

Keeping kids busy reduces the sibling stunts and trouble that may show up. So plan ahead to do something to keep your child busy for the next 3 months. This is also a wonderful time to remember why you decided to have kids. Go enjoy them. Maybe its time to think about Summer Camps

Here are 4 things to do with your kids to make this a great summer!

Attend a Baseball Game Whether you take the kids to a professional game, minor league game, or even a local high school game really doesn’t matter – as just being at the ballpark with your kids is a great bonding opportunity for dads and the kids. Nothing beats a hot dog at the ballpark or teaching your kids how to crack open a peanut with their teeth and spit out the shell.

Go Fishing Grab the fishing poles and a handful of earth worms – although we always used hot dogs for bait when I was a kid – and head down to a nearby pond or river. While it is fun to get out in a boat, you can have just as much fun standing on the shore casting out into the water. It helps to have a tackle box with a few essentials, such as pliers, lures, etc. but don’t let the lack of these items prevent you from getting out there. If you plan to fish yourself, be careful as you may require a fishing license for your area and don’t want to get fined for breaking the law.

Have A Treasure Hunt Whether you break out the metal detector to look for buried treasure or just make up a treasure list like when you were a kid at a sleep over, you will have fun exploring. Part of the excitement with a treasure hunt is just imagining the possibilities. Maybe you will find some long-lost artifact that would make Indiana Jones proud – or maybe you will just find a dime that has been buried for years. Most kids will be just as happy either way.

Parents often do not have the time or energy to keep up with your kid so consider an Summer Youth Camp this summer for your child. [youtube:pTbm0BuWg84;[link: Summer Camp] ;http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTbm0BuWg84&feature=related]

A Lesson Review of Snow White

Saturday, May 21st, 2011

Children films always had an advantage over films of other genres. They are great for a family to enjoy together. Parents don’t have to worry about any inappropriate language, violence, or overt sex scenes. Even better, children films always comes with a lesson attached. Disney has a long line of great cinemas released over the years that are geared towards minor audiences. These films never fail to disappoint, and always has a moral to be learned in the end.

I could talk about any one of the great classics released by Disney. For this article, I’m going to talk about Snow White, which was released in 1937 and is the first animated movie by Disney. Despite being over 70 years old, Snow White remains one of the greatest animations of all time. It won’t be necessary for me to go over the plot, because that’s not what this article is about. I’m going to be discussing the moral of the tale, so that parents can pass it along to their children.

The lesson of the story is about vanity. The evil Queen was vein and believed her beauty surpassed everyone else. She believed it made her superior, and she would get confirmation by having the magic mirror reply that she is the fairest of them all.

Then one day, to the dismay of the Queen, the mirror replied that it is Snow White who is now the fairest. This enraged the Queen, and she vowed to do away with Snow White. She took the form of an old hag and deceived Snow White into biting on an apple that was poisoned.

This should be a lesson that physical beauty is only skin deep. Parents can use this as an illustration that you should focus more on inner qualities, like being nice to other people, and displaying an overall unselfish and kind personality. The Queen’s selfish desire to be the most beautiful would end in her own demise.

As for Snow White, she falls into a deep sleep after eating the tainted apple. This should be another lesson of why you should never accept anything from strangers.

I recommend parents to set a weekly family movie night with their kids. Allow them to enjoy the movie, and right when it ends, quiz them on what they learned. You can add to whatever answer they give you by including your own hindsight. This is a very effective child learning strategy.

Picking The Best Summer Camp

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

[youtube:pTbm0BuWg84;[link:Summer Camp Wisconsin];http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTbm0BuWg84&feature=related] My son had just celebrated his 10th birthday and I knew that this summer would be more than day care, soccer games and trips to the park. I wondered if a Wisconsin Summer Camps was the answer.

Now 15, and has gone to Swift Nature Camp for years and we are going to send him back again and again. Despite his ADHD and trouble at school, he loves it loves camp.

Swift Nature Camp took their time with the children’s, the staff had a hands-on approach to leadership, social skills development and confidence-building seems to really work

Jeff and Lonnie, along with enthusiastic counselors, provide an atmosphere that encourages positive life skills to be developed. My son has grown so much for his time at SNC. Today he has greater peer understanding and empathy, better self-confidence and trust, his leadership skills increased, an understanding of group dynamics and fair process and many other valuable relational skills.

At first I like all parents was reluctant to sending him to a place I had never seen, except in a dvd and the website. Yet the rewards were well worth it! I talked to Jeff and Lonnie over the phone before I signed him up for the Discovery Camp . A special program for the First time at Camp.

Lonnie was so willing to chat about any and all question I had. Thus calming, my fears then making the decision easy. So off my son went taking the bus to camp, Yet, I picked him up when camp was over so I could see first-hand all what Swift Nature Camp was all about.

During the 8-hour journey home, he was so excited about Swift that I’m not sure he took a breath between stories.

The SNC website tells you everything you need to know and I love how the camp is set up. The fairly modern cabins the same age and gender kids. As a group they and do activities together, including laundry.

Almost every afternoon the campers can choose a variety of typical camp activities (arts … crafts, archery, swimming, horses and much more). My kid loved going to the Nature Center and learning more about animals.

As an Nature and Animal Camp, Swift Nature Camp is dedicated to awareness and nature preservation. The nature center has microscopes and a zoo. Campers can even bring their own pets from home. All nature programs are hands on and fun.

Like most camps there is plenty of laughter, games, campfires, food, sports, fun, drama, singing, etc. This is what makes this sleepaway camp an experience every camper remembers for their entire life.

I appreciate that this isn’t a “sports camp” or “education camp” or something ultra specific. Its back to traditional being outdoors having fun sort of camp. Kids at SNC get to be kids and by experiencing all sorts of different activities and a diverse set of campers and counselors. Because its a Summer Coed Camps , it helps the kids get ready for the real world. They learn more about themselves than at a specialized camp with specific goals.

My boy learns each summer. We have noticed wonderful improvement in his attitude along with manners and abilities. He is more mature, pleasant and competent. You can not put a price on his experiences and the social education he has gained from Swift Nature Camp.

When I would talk to other parents we would often comment that their is no place that tutors kids in social skills. We were wrong! We found exactly what my son needed at exactly the right time in his life.

Please consider away camp for your child. You will be glad you did! And Check our Swift. I think what makes this such a special place is that it is a non-competitive, confidence-building camp where kids get to be kids. I know it is the best thing we ever did for our son.

Thanks Jeff, Lonnie and all the fabulous counselors, cooks, nurses, etc. We hope our son will join SNC as a counselor when he is older! At least that is his plan.

How To Look At Family Car Safety

Sunday, May 8th, 2011

Trying to find a car to buy within your budget can be hard, let alone trying to find one that also covers all family car safety points that you want. It can also be a struggle to know what you are looking for when it comes to finding a vehicle that is safe for everyone in your family and here are a few things to look out for.

The first thing that you want is a vehicle that is big enough to fit your whole family. If you have six other passengers then you will need a seven seater car. It really is as simple as that. It is extremely dangerous, not to mention illegal, to have members of your family sat on each other’s laps or to have them laying on the floor of the car so ensure there are enough seats or do not buy it.

You need to ensure that the seat belts are working and that there are enough for all of the seats that are in your car. This is always something that you should look at. To make it even safer, you should consider what the middle seat of the car has. A lap belt is not the safest type, especially if it is not tight enough. You should consider cars that can really keep your passengers strapped in.

Every now and then, cars will be recalled due to safety features. There is a list of all of the cars that have been recalled either by governments or manufacturers so you should always check that the car that you are looking at has not been called back for problems. There are many reasons as to why a car will be recalled and all are because they affect the safety of you and your passengers.

Safety features are not just about what you can see but also about parts of the car that are not visible. You should look for cars that have anti-lock braking systems and air bags, among other things. You should also check for the rules when it does come to these safety features, such as putting a baby seat in the passenger seat with an airbag.

When it does come to looking at the possible additions to a car to ensure its ability to protect your spouse and kids, you should consider speaking to the people at the dealership that you are looking at. You should ask where all of these additions are and what they are able to do. Any salesperson should be able to answer all of your questions.

You will need to add the family car safety features to your budget because you will find that a car will cost you a lot more. However, you also need to question whether you can really put a price on your passenger’s lives.

When you drive a vehicle, car safety is important to you and your passengers. You can find numerous car accessories such as towbars by searching the Internet.

Talking About Family Car Safety

Friday, May 6th, 2011

Many people think about family car safety every day. Making sure that a vehicle is properly maintained can often avoid potential accidents. It is also a good idea to be prepared for possible emergency situations.

First and foremost, it is a good idea to keep the vehicle maintained according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Generally, fluids and filter should be checked about ever 3,000-5,000 miles. It is also important that the battery; as well as, the plugs, hoses and wires are checked occasionally to ensure that they are all in good condition. The horn, lights and signals should also remain in good working condition.

The tires of a vehicle should be rotated occasionally, and the tire pressure and treads should be checked at least once a month. It is important to check all four tires, as they can vary greatly in some cases. Tires should be replaced immediately if the tread is below the recommended standards. Brake pads and fluids should also be check regularly, and changed as needed.

Even though a vehicle may be safe to drive, there is always the chance that an emergency may come up. It is a good idea to keep a spare tire and a jack in the vehicle. Also it is recommended that every vehicle has some type of emergency kit handy. This should include flashlights, emergency flares, jumper cables and a first aid kit at minimum. There may be additional items individual families may need to include, such as medications, infant needs or other personal items.

All passengers should be properly restrained in seat belts or child safety seats. Check with your local government agency to ensure that you are following the proper requirements for child restraints. It is also important to make sure that all child seats are in good condition, and replaced immediately if damaged.

Distractions are often the cause of many accidents; therefore, drivers should not perform distracting tasks while driving. Some areas even have laws that regulate cell phone usage while driving. It is also suggested that families discuss car safety and define the type of behavior that is expected while a vehicle is in motion. If children understand the dangers associated with inappropriate behavior in a vehicle, it is more likely that they will be more cooperative.

Keeping a vehicle well maintained, and following the local traffic laws can often help in avoiding emergencies; however, it is still a good idea to be prepared, in case one does arise. Talking about family car safety can also help in minimizing distractions, which will allow the driver to focus more on driving safely.
